Sovela Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy

Who this policy is for

This policy is from Covalent Families Inc. (“we”, “us”), which makes Sovela. It explains how we handle consumer health data: personal information that identifies, or could reasonably be linked to, your past, present or future physical or mental health. Washington’s My Health My Data Act gives people rights over this kind of data. We give the same rights to everyone who uses Sovela, wherever they live.

Our Privacy Policy, at sovelaparents.com/privacy, covers everything else about how Sovela handles personal information. Where the two differ about consumer health data, this policy applies.

The consumer health data we collect

What Where it comes from Why we collect it, and how we use it
Mood check-ins: how you say you’re doing (Rough, Low, Okay, Good or Great), any words you add, and when You, when you make a check-in in the app’s Grow screen To show you your own check-ins, so you can look back on your days. Nothing else.
Journal entries: what you write in a private journal, when the app offers one You To keep them for you. Sovela has no journal feature today. When it does, entries are handled exactly as this policy describes, and kept only with your consent.

We collect it only with your consent. Before your first check-in, the app shows you, on a screen of its own, what’s kept, why, who can see it and how to stop. Nothing is kept until you agree. Agreeing is separate from anything else you’ve agreed to, and saying no changes nothing else in Sovela.

What we don’t do with it. We don’t draw conclusions from your check-ins, score them, or use them to label or rate you. We don’t use them to choose lessons, for advertising or for research, and we don’t use them to train AI models. Sovela counts what you do; it never concludes anything about you.

What we don’t collect. We never collect your location, so we never use a geofence or any location-based tracking around a place that provides health care. We don’t collect biometric or genetic data, or information about health care you seek or receive.

Who receives it

Nobody else sees your check-ins. Not the other parent, who can’t see them or tell they exist. Not a professional you give access to, such as an attorney or mediator. They aren’t included in exports for a court or an attorney, and they’re never sent to an AI service.

We don’t share it. We don’t share consumer health data with any third party or affiliate. Covalent Families Inc. has no affiliates that receive it.

We don’t sell it. We never sell consumer health data, or offer to.

Service provider. Only one company, which processes data for us under a contract, stores it:

Provider What it does What it receives
DigitalOcean Hosts our servers, databases and backups (US families: New York; Canadian families: Toronto) Your check-ins, encrypted at rest. The words you add are also encrypted with a key for you alone, held in a separate key service we run in your country.

Texts, emails and notifications never mention check-ins. Inside Sovela, only systems that need your check-ins can reach them, and Sovela staff have no standing access to them.

Your rights

You can do these yourself, at any time, in the app (Grow, then All your check-ins):

  • Confirm and see whether we hold your check-ins, and see every one of them, with the words you added and when.
  • Withdraw your consent. Choose Stop keeping check-ins. No new check-ins are kept. The ones you’ve made stay until you delete them.
  • Delete them. Choose Delete all check-ins. If your account has a passkey or second factor, we’ll ask for it first, so someone holding your unlocked phone can’t do it. Deleting your account deletes them too.

Deleting is complete. Your check-ins are deleted from our database at once. The words you added were encrypted with your own key, and our backups expire after 30 days, so nothing of them remains anywhere after that. No other company holds a copy to delete.

Asking us instead. You can also email privacy@sovelaparents.com from the address on your account, to confirm what we hold, get a copy, withdraw consent or delete. We may ask you to confirm it’s you. We don’t charge for requests, and we won’t treat you differently for making one. We’ll answer within 45 days. If we need longer, we’ll tell you why within those 45 days, and take no more than 45 more.

Appeals. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with “appeal”. We’ll decide within 45 days and tell you in writing what we decided and why. If we deny your appeal, you can complain to the Washington State Attorney General at atg.wa.gov.

Changes and contact

If we want to collect a new kind of consumer health data, or use it for a new purpose, we’ll update this policy first and ask for your consent again in the app before we do. If we change the consent notice, we’ll ask again before your next check-in.
