Accepting a client's invitation
How a parent invites you, how you accept, and what you'll see on Your clients.
Families bring you into Sovela; you can’t add yourself to a family.
- An attorney is invited by their client. The other parent can’t see the invitation or that it exists.
- A mediator or parenting coordinator is proposed by one parent with an end date (at most two years away). The other parent must agree before the invitation is sent.
Accepting
The invitation email comes from the parent (for a neutral, from the family) and the link works for 14 days. Open it and sign in with the email address the invitation was sent to. If you don’t have an account yet, signing in creates one.
Client records need a second factor. If your account doesn’t have one, Sovela asks you to set one up before you accept. If you belong to a firm on Sovela, you can put the work Under your firm; otherwise leave it as Not under a firm.
If the link has expired or been cancelled, you’ll see “This invitation can’t be used.” Ask the family for a new one.
Your clients
Your clients lists every family whose access is in force: names, Attorney or Neutral, since when, and when access ends if it has an end date. From each card, open the matter (or workspace) and your message thread.
When access ends
An attorney’s access lasts until the client ends it. A neutral’s ends on its end date, or sooner if either parent ends it. When access ends, the family disappears from Your clients and you lose access to the thread.
You can end your own access too, for example when you step back from a case: choose End my access on the family’s card and confirm. It ends at once, and only the family can give it back.
Working under a firm
If you belong to a firm or program, each card has an Under choice: put the work under your firm, so it appears on the firm’s client list and counts toward its outcomes, or keep it as just yours. You can change it at any time.
