Shared expenses

Ask for the other parent's share, agree splits, answer or dispute, and nothing disappears.

Money keeps two separate ledgers: Shared expenses and Child support. Amounts are in US dollars, or Canadian dollars for families in Canada.

Asking for a share

Tap Add an expense: choose a category (medical, activities, school, childcare or other), say what it was, the total and the date, and why if you like. Sovela shows what you’re asking for, in dollars and percent: “Asks for $30.00, 50% of $60.00”.

Turn on Ask before spending to ask whether to spend the money first. The other parent can Agree to spend it or Don’t agree with a reason. If they agree, ask for their share once it’s paid.

Splits

Without an agreed split, Sovela asks for half and says so. To use your plan’s split, go to Category splits in the Money menu and propose each parent’s share for a category, with the plan section if you like. It applies to new expenses once the other parent agrees.

Answering

When the other parent asks for your share, you can:

  • Agree to the full amount
  • Agree to part of it, with the amount and a reason
  • Dispute it, with a reason in a sentence

You can change your answer later; the latest one counts. A disputed expense stays on the record with both parents’ reasons.

Corrections

The parent who asked can correct the amount or description and say what changed. The other parent is then asked again, and every version stays listed under Versions. Once a payment is confirmed, add a new expense for any difference instead.

Nothing disappears

Every step is kept in order with a fingerprint. Nothing can be edited or removed, by either parent or by Sovela. Check this record works each fingerprint out again and tells you whether every step still matches.
